KATHERINE CASTRO

Multilingual and world-traveled Dominican Republic-born actress, a self-proclaimed “Air Force Brat,” Katherine Castro is the only girl amongst her four siblings where artistic talent and passion were obvious from the start. From her toddler years, she would put on shows, sing, dance, and perform for her family and visiting guests.

Katherine’s parents noticed she was having problems with coordination and balance. Upon a doctor’s recommendation, she enrolled in ballet, jazz, tap, and gymnastics. Not only did she achieve balance and coordination, but Katherine also quickly became one of the most outstanding dancers in her school, winning many dance competitions while drawing comparisons to Rita Moreno. In her teens, her on-camera talent emerged, leading to a series of national commercials and hosting a daily national variety show. She then made the big move to Los Angeles and began training with renowned acting coach Aaron Speiser (coach for Will Smith, Gerard Butler, and Jennifer Lopez, among others).

Well known in the entertainment industry, Katherine was named one of NBC Latino’s Top 10 Standout Latinos at Sundance. She is also a recipient of the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Award for ‘International Breakthrough Artist of the Year’ and an award from the Women in Film Association in the Dominican Republic. Castro’s empowering journey from TV host and actress to producer has made her Hollywood’s next powerhouse Latina.

Katherine creates projects with purpose and drive; she co-wrote, co-produced, and starred in her short film SOMEDAY starring Chris Santos (THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE). The film follows two strangers who meet on a 14-hour flight from Sydney to Los Angeles. Along the way, they pour their hearts out, forging a more beautiful connection precisely because of its simple, fleeting nature. The film won awards at the Berlin Flash Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Awards, Global Film Festival Awards, and Film Infest, among others.

Her latest film, WEAK, is a dramatic thriller about an investigation involving two women: Audra (Katherine Castro), who is suffering from depression, and her friend Jen (Bridget Regan), who is trying to help her cope with mental health issues. They visit a shooting range to “let off some steam” when an unexpected turn of events leads to a surprising and horrifying revelation. Castro received the Best Actor Award at the DTLA Film Festival for her role as Audra, and the film won Best Short at the Dominican Film Festival in NYC in the Dominican in The Diaspora competition

Katherine’s wellness journey began with her diagnosis of Hashimoto’s. Determined to find a better path, she trusted her instincts and rejected the conventional “one size fits all” approach. After a lengthy exploration of various doctors, treatments, and research, she found her functional medicine team, which focused on the root cause of her illness and empowered her healing journey. This inspired her to host “Esencia: Latina Wellness” on LatiNation Media, a show that combines holistic wisdom with expert insights into Latina health. She serves as a beacon of resilience, inviting viewers on a transformative journey to explore various approaches to health and wellness. In-depth conversations with experts from different fields of medicine reveal a rich tapestry of wellness philosophies.

Past film roles include EL GALLO filmed in Santo Domingo and directed by the highly acclaimed actor Juan Fernandez de Alarcon (THE COLLECTOR, A MAN APART), THE SUMMONING alongside Eric Roberts (THE DARK KNIGHT), directed by Alberto. G Rodriguez and produced by the two-time Emmy Award winner Cristian Luna. We can also catch Castro as “M” in the award-winning action thriller MAMBA, alongside Sonalii Castillo (“The Outpost,” “Heroes”) Chad Michael Collins (SNIPER, “Extinct”), Cooper Andrews (“The Walking Dead,” SHAZAM!) and Sam Puefua (“Hawaii Five-O,” “Lodge 49”) and AMERICA 2.0, the groundbreaking, star-studded audio series starring Patrick J. Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Kate Walsh.

When not filming or traveling, Katherine lends her time and talents to non-profit organizations including Make A Film Foundation and Los Angeles Mission.
